OUR UNIQUE WEAVES
OUR SCARVES ARE WOVEN TO BE TOTALLY UNIQUE AND MORE EXCEPTIONAL THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THE WORLD.
99% of designer silk scarves are printed onto a basic silk square and thats where our designs differ.
We have worked hard to revive and refine techniques that are hundreds of years old and bring them into the modern era making them beautiful, functional and wearable art.
Fil-Coupé is a scarce and hard to achieve weave which we have revived and re-mastered using an extremely rare loom on Lake Como. Pure 100% silk is woven with some warp threads which are then dropped by the loom to create a contrast between a dense weave and feather light opaque weave. It creates a unique effect as the dropped threads at the back are then cut, leaving a beautiful frayed (cut threads) Fil-Coupé effect. These 100% silk pieces have an uncommonly rich feel to them that is universally unique.
To make each piece it takes fifteen people, nineteen processes, 2 looms and a second Como facility for precise milimetre fine cutting and finishing.
Graphic jacquard is one of our most recent weaves produced by Como Silks. This weighty, pure and decadent, 100% Italian woven silk tapestry creates a beautifully rich effect that is so refined and detailed it seems printed. It’s a truly exquisite scarf in both its craft and excellence. This is a unique piece that takes one whole day on the loom to weave. The design, Balbianello, is an art piece as well as a wearable day to day item with a story and reflection of the most famous Villa/Palazzo on Lake Como.
To make each piece it takes one full day to weave, sixteen people and two factories for this unique, modern, tapestry like finish. These scarfs are started and finished by hand on Lake Como, Italy.
Like Graphic jacquard, Fil Jacquard is also a relatively new weave to Como Silks. Mid weight, pure and super high definition with 100% Italian silk, it’s crafted in such a way that it creates a pearlescent effect that changes in the light.
One such design, Pelargoni, uses the distinctive Como Silks mulberry tree and famous lake flower to create an abstract yet classic pairing.
The fray (Fil) cut edges make these pieces young and wearable day or night, for any season. We worked tirelessly to devise the weave to be flexible, soft and breathable all at once.
To make each piece it takes three quarters of a full day to weave, thirteen people and two factories for that unique, pearlescent finish. All designs are started and finished by hand on Lake Como, Italy.
